John Legend Responds to Sean Diddy Combs Abuse Allegations, Cassie Video

John Legend is responding to allegations of sexual assault and abuse against Sean “Diddy” Combs, with whom he collaborated on a song last year.

In an interview with CNN, the “All of Me” singer said he was “horrified” by the numerous allegations that had been made about Combs even before the outlet published video of the music producer physically assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles. Hotel in Angeles in 2016.

“I was horrified by the descriptions I read before the video evidence was released,” Legend said of the allegations made against Combs by Ventura and several other women. “And absolutely, it’s something that needs to be brought to light when it happens.”

The video, obtained by CNN, shows the music producer exiting a hotel room with a towel after a woman who appears in Ventura as she walks toward the elevators. Combs then grabs her by the back of the neck, throws her to the ground and kicks her repeatedly, even though she doesn't move.

“My default position is to believe women when they make these accusations and make sure we do everything we can to support the women (who make them),” Legend said, adding that he hopes “ that they will be heard and that any sort of accountability and reparations can be made to make these women whole again.

He told the outlet that what Combs has been accused of is “shameful” and that he wants “the best” for Ventura and “all the other victims who have alleged he abused them.” He concluded: “It’s really a shame. I really just want accountability and hopefully healing for all of his victims.

Legend and Babyface collaborated with Combs on his song “Kim Porter,” named after the music producer's former partner, with whom he shared three children and who died of pneumonia in 2018. The track was featured on the album 2023 from Combs, The Love Album: Off the Grid.

Ventura filed a civil suit against Combs in November, accusing him of repeatedly raping and physically assaulting her for nearly a decade throughout their on-and-off relationship. She noted in the complaint that she had been “trapped by Mr. Combs in a cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking.”

They settled the lawsuit shortly afterward, with Combs' attorney, Benjamin Brafman, saying at the time that the settlement was “in no way an admission of wrongdoing.”

Since then, Combs has been the subject of several lawsuits, accusing him of rape, sexual assault and sex trafficking. He has denied all allegations.
