John Budensiek will become the next Martin County sheriff

MARTIN COUNTY — As the filing deadline passed unopposed Friday, Martin County Sheriff's Chief Deputy John Budensiek landed the job as Martin County's next sheriff.

Budensiek, a Republican, will take the reins in early January from longtime Sheriff William Snyder, who announced in March that he would not seek a fourth term as sheriff.

The deadline for candidates to get on the ballot was noon Friday, and in the race for Martin County sheriff, only Budensiek had done so, said Vicki Davis, Martin County elections supervisor.

He will be sworn in on Jan. 7, 2025, Davis said.

Budensiek, a lifelong Martin County resident, joined the sheriff's office in 1997 and served in various positions over the years, including SWAT team commander, according to his agency biography. He lives in Hobe Sound with his wife and four children.
