Jesse Gladney charged with murder for fatal Westminster shooting

A Colorado man faces first-degree murder charges in Saturday's fatal shooting of a woman in Thornton, officials announced Wednesday.

Jesse Gladney, 36, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of first-degree murder, and the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office announced Gladney was charged with murder Wednesday morning.

The victim has not been identified.

Westminster officers initially responded to reports of a possible domestic violence incident in the 12000 block of Melody Drive around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Westminster Police Department.

The caller provided a description of the suspect vehicle, but by the time officers arrived on scene, it was missing, police said. Officers alerted nearby agencies to the description of the car.

Shortly thereafter, the Thornton Police Department received a call from the 12000 block of Colorado Boulevard about a woman who had been shot in a car matching the description of the vehicle officers were looking for in Westminster, a the police said in the press release.

The woman died of her injuries at a nearby hospital, police said. Gladney was later found and taken into custody.

Gladney will remain in custody at the Adams County Detention Center and his preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 30 in Adams County District Court, the prosecutor's office said.

The 36-year-old man has a criminal history in Weld County, according to court records. He has previously pleaded guilty to fleeing police, property damage, child abuse and several counts of assault.

In May, Gladney was arrested on suspicion of criminal threatening and multiple weapons charges, according to court records.

He posted $27,500 bail on June 3 and was awaiting a hearing on June 11 when he was arrested on murder charges. The case is still active – although its August 1 deliberation hearing was canceled, two review hearings on these charges are scheduled for July 18 and October 18.
