Jeffrey Epstein accuser sues psychiatrist Henry Jarecki for alleged rape and sex trafficking – NBC Connecticut

• A woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by Jeffrey Epstein has filed a lawsuit against famed psychiatrist, entrepreneur and commodities trader Henry Jarecki for allegedly raping and trafficking her.
• The woman's lawsuit in New York federal court says Jarecki, co-founder of Moviefone, abused her after Epstein sent her to his home for psychiatric treatment.
• Jarecki “understood that the women Epstein sent were under Epstein's control and that Jarecki himself could attempt to sexually abuse them without the risk of being exposed,” the suit claims.

A woman who says she was sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein filed a lawsuit Monday against famed psychiatrist, entrepreneur and commodities trader Henry Jarecki, alleging that Jarecki raped and sex trafficked her after Epstein l was sent for psychiatric treatment.

The federal civil suit filed by the unidentified woman in Manhattan federal court says Jarecki, 91, was a “close friend” of the late fund manager Epstein, who committed suicide in a New York prison in 2019.

Epstein allegedly sent other young women to Jarecki for the psychiatrist to “treat” them confidentially, in order to “avoid unwanted attention to Epstein's sexual abuse of these young women,” the suit alleges.

“Jarecki also understood that the women Epstein was sending were under Epstein's control and that Jarecki himself could attempt to sexually abuse them without risk of being exposed,” according to the complaint, first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The complaint, which refers to the woman as “11-year-old Jane Doe,” says Jarecki “repeatedly raped her” from 2011 to December 2014.

It also alleges that the Moviefone co-founder and film producer used testosterone pills to increase “his libido” and “began inviting other men and forcing Jane Doe 11 to have sex with these others men in front of him, which he did on numerous occasions.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for sexual battery, sex trafficking and intentional infliction of emotional distress,

Brad Edwards, the accuser's attorney, said in an email to CNBC: “This is an important lawsuit brought by a courageous young woman whom we are honored to represent.”

“We hope his courage will encourage others to feel safe coming forward,” said Edwards, whose co-counsels in the case are David Boies and Sigrid McCawley.

Their lawsuit comes a year after the same lawyers won a $290 million settlement from banking giant JPMorgan Chase on behalf of Epstein victims who accused the bank of benefiting from and facilitating Epstein's sex trafficking operation.

Jarecki's lawyer, Sarita Kedia, said in a statement to CNBC: “The allegations will be shown to be entirely false and baseless.”

“Dr. Jarecki never engaged in abusive behavior toward the plaintiff or any other person,” Kedia said.

An assistant professor at the Yale School of Medicine, Jarecki received the Pardes Humanitarian Award in Mental Health from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation in November last year. He is the co-author of the textbook “Modern Psychiatric Treatment”.

In the 1980s, Jarecki was called “the dean of the American gold market” by the New York Times, for his role as chairman of Mocatta Metals Corp.

In 1999, he and his son, Andrew Jarecki, a documentarian who made “Capturing the Friedmans,” sold their online ticketing site Moviefone to AOL for nearly $390 million in stock.

Epstein, 66, committed suicide in a New York federal prison in August 2019 after being arrested a month earlier on child sex trafficking charges.

Epstein had many wealthy and high-profile friends over the years, including Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew of Great Britain.
