Jefferson County Sheriff Deputizes for Morrison Police Officers

DENVER (KDVR) — In a ceremony Monday, Jefferson County Sheriff Reggie Marinelli deputized for Morrison Police Department officers, authorizing them to act as deputies of the Sheriff's Office through their functions of police officers.

According to the Morrison Police Department, the measure was designed to demonstrate the growing collaborative work and mutual commitment of the two agencies. Morrison Police Chief Bill Vinelli called it a “force multiplier” for both agencies.

“Jefferson County deputies already play an important role in keeping Morrison safe, so it’s only natural that we can now help nearby county residents or visitors, whether at Red Rocks Park or nearby locations currently served by the county,” Vinelli said in a statement.

The Morrison agency has 15 certified agents and two civilian employees, according to its release. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office employs “more than 500 state-certified deputies and nearly 300 professionals,” according to its website.

“Our county and state stand to benefit from increased collaboration with Morrison’s officers,” Marinelli said in a statement. “Their increased staffing allows them to investigate traffic incidents, freeing up our deputies to respond to other calls.” »

Both agencies are served by Jeffcom 911 for dispatch services.
