JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna arrested for alleged sexual abuse of party member

JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, the brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna who faces allegations of sexual abuse of several women, was arrested on Sunday in Hassan for “unnatural offenses” against him, said the police.

He was booked on Saturday for allegedly sexually abusing a party member a few days ago, and has been booked under various sections of the IPC, including 'unnatural offences'.

The investigation into this matter has been entrusted to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Following this, Suraj was shifted from Hassan to Bengaluru and produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Magistrate of the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court (ACMM), at his residence here, who remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Suraj, a doctor, was questioned overnight at the CEN police station in Hassan before being arrested on Sunday morning, police sources said, adding that he was then taken to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences ( HIMS) for a medical examination.

A 27-year-old man had complained to the police that Suraj Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MP and former minister HD Revanna, had sexually assaulted him at his Ghannikada farmhouse on June 16.

Based on the complaint, the Holenarasipura police filed a case against the JD(S) MLC under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, late Saturday night.

However, Suraj Revanna (37), grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union minister HD Kumaraswamy, categorically denied the charge. He alleged that the man had filed a false complaint with the aim of extorting Rs 5 crore from him.

On Friday, police registered a case of extortion against the JD(S) worker following a complaint lodged by Shivakumar, a close aide of Suraj Revanna.

Shivakumar had alleged that the party worker was trying to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to file a sexual assault case against him. It was alleged that even though the man had demanded Rs 5 crore from Suraj Revanna, it was later reduced to Rs 2 crore.

Meanwhile, the medical examination of the alleged victim was conducted at Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru, police sources said.

Home Minister G Parameshwara, speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, said following the complaint, the police had registered an FIR, secured Suraj Revanna and the investigation was underway.

The case has been handed over to the CID, he said. “A series of similar cases have been referred to the CID, this is also being referred to the CID,” he said.

Regarding Suraj Revanna's complaint, he said, “Whatever action needs to be taken in this regard will be taken. » On Suraj Revanna alleging a conspiracy against his family, Parameshwara said, “A complaint has been filed. On this basis, all measures that must be taken in accordance with the law are taken. Other than that, I am not aware of any political conspiracy that he alleged. Suraj's brother and former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna is in police custody for allegedly sexually abusing several women and was arrested upon his return from Germany last month.

Prajwal, who lost the Hassan Lok Sabha seat in the Lok Sabha elections, was arrested on May 31 soon after returning from Germany where he was locked up after cases of rape and intimidation were registered against him.

Their father HD Revanna and their mother Bhavani, accused of kidnapping an alleged victim of sexual assault by their son Prajwal, are released on bail.

HD Revanna called the allegations against Suraj a “conspiracy” and said he had faith in God and justice.

“I will not react to anything. I have faith in God and justice. I will not fear such conspiracies. I know what it is. Time will decide,” he said.

Not wanting to react to the case involving his nephew Suraj, Union Minister and JD(S) state chief HD Kumaraswamy said he had nothing to do with the matter and the law would take its course.

“Why are you asking me this question? It doesn't concern me. There is no need to react to all these things. The law will take its own course… What do I have to do with this (affair) ?” he said.
