Jay Slater's mother reveals 'new sighting' in search of missing teen

The concerned mother of missing Briton Jay Slater has hinted at a “new sighting” in the search for the 19-year-old.

Debbie Duncan, 55, has been nervously waiting for news since her son disappeared. She has now revealed that a person claims to have seen her son walking down a street with two other men last Monday evening.

He was last seen on Monday morning as he tried to catch a bus back to the south of Tenerife, where he was staying with friends.

“Someone came forward to say they saw someone they thought was Jay coming back down the road, sitting on a bench,” she was quoted as saying.

“He was with two men who looked a little worse for wear, and they were near a church, this guy came forward and told the police and they're investigating. We don't know if it was Jay for sure, but it's a start.

“They said it was around 6 p.m., ten hours after he was seen by the village lady. But if it was him, what was he doing there and who are these two men?”

The search party for Jay, 19, focused their efforts on a ravine near where he was last heard from.

Search and rescue personnel carefully combed through dead palm trees covering a river at the base of a hill, near a property they were believed to have been led to.

Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, went missing after trying to walk home after missing a bus. He had attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance. His mother Debbie, speaking to the Mail, added: “All I know is I'm going to stay here for as long as it takes, I'm not coming home unless it's with Jay. I'm not going anywhere until they find him.”

She also said she was not happy that Spanish cops had refused an offer of help from Lancashire Police when she had “not slept all day” and was “going through all the emotions.”

She said: “I had a day of shouting and screaming during my meeting with the police. I know the Spanish police have good intentions, but the problem we have is the language barrier, we don't It just doesn't seem like we're being told. I'm sure they're doing their best.

“They told me they had used dogs and drones and then they said Lancashire Police had offered their resources but they declined, but I think it would have really helped.

“I would feel happier if our people gave too much help. It's so hard not knowing where he is, the area and terrain is rough, but the police were saying now there are too many people there -high and that this could interfere with their investigation.”
