Jay Slater's friend stirs up further confusion by claiming the teen met mystery men days before spending the night at an Airbnb and disappearing

JAY Slater's boyfriend has now claimed the missing teenager met two mystery British men just days before he vanished.

The latest twist has sparked further confusion after reports initially suggested Jay first met the men in the early hours of June 17, hours before he disappeared.

New police updates and new 'leads' have raised more questions than answers in Jay's mysterious disappearance two weeks ago.

The teenager has not been seen or heard from since June 17.

Jay's close friend Brad Hargreaves spoke to ITV's This Morning about the two mystery men who have since returned to the UK.

The two men are believed to have met Jay up until three days before June 17, when he disappeared, Brad told reporter Isla Traquair.

In a TikTok video, Isla spoke about the two men, recalling what Brad told her.

The TV journalist said: “The two men he went to stay with, he had met them three days before. They spent time with them, they became friends during the holidays.

“He hadn't met two random people that night. They had struck up a friendship and Brad said they seemed like really cool guys.”

Brad was on vacation with Jay and their other friend Lucy Law for the three-day New Rave Generation music festival.

Lucy, who was the first to report the teenager missing, has yet to speak out about the mysterious duo.

After going to a rave on Sunday night, apprentice mason Jay went to Masca with the two men.

Jay Slater's best friend says he heard him 'slip on rocks' during last video call with teen before disappearance

He shared a final Snapchat from their Airbnb of a hand holding a cigarette at 7:30 a.m.

He was holding a colorful blanket that Brad said had been given to Jay by the men.

Jay then tried to return to his holiday accommodation, an 11-hour walk away.

During the walk, Jay made two phone calls to the police: one to Brad and one to Lucy.

It comes like…

Brad opened their last conversation by saying that Jay wasn't initially concerned about returning to their place.

But, after a few minutes on the phone, he told This Morning he could hear Jay's feet sliding on the rocks, signalling he had left the road.

Brad said, “That's how I knew he went off the road because, you know, when you're walking on gravel or anything, you can…you see this I mean, stones. »

He admitted, however, that he wasn't worried at the time, as Jay reassured him that he was fine – but he told his friend to state his location.

Brad added: “We were both laughing about it. He said, 'Look where I am.'

He said Jay then cut off because he had another call waiting – but promised to call back.

Jay is then believed to have spoken with Lucy, where his attitude towards his situation is said to have worsened.

The teenager complained about needing water because of the heat before his phone ran out of battery, leaving Lucy panicking.

It remains unclear why Jay didn't wait at the Airbnb cabin to ask for help or supplies with his new friends.

Police update on missing duo

The latest twist comes just days after private investigator Mark Williams-Thomas called the men “key witnesses” in the case.

The men were only briefly asked to speak with police before being allowed to return home to the UK.

Neither man has been contacted since, Mark says.

This has raised questions about why the couple have not been asked to participate further in investigations as time is running out.

Cipriano Martin, head of the Civil Guard's Greim mountain rescue unit, was questioned about the two mystery men who party with the teenager the night he disappeared.

Investigator Mark Williams-Thomas said the men were “key witnesses” in the investigation.

Mr Martin said the two men had no connection with Jay's disappearance.

He said: “We are mountain specialists and we are in charge of the searches here, and it is the investigators of the Civil Guard who have been in charge of the investigation.

“These men have been questioned and they have no connection with the case.”

But former detective Mark – who worked on the Madeleine McCann case – claims to have pieced together the mystery and believes the duo could help.

They are both said to be aged between 30 and 40 and from Luton, Bedfordshire, with one nicknamed 'Johnny Vegas'.

None of them would have been at the NRG music festival where Jay spent the day partying before disappearing.

“The family is desperate for these men to come forward as witnesses. They are not assisting at the moment,” Mark added.

“The group sat outside on the wall outside the club after the night ended. Witnesses say he seemed completely in control of himself.

“What we don't know is why he left with them.”

“Massive” research is underway

Tenerfife police launched a massive search operation on Saturday to find the Briton who had been missing for two weeks.

The search for missing Jay reached a turning point this weekend with cops seeking help from expert explorers and climbers as they scour the mountains where Jay may have gotten lost.

However, only six volunteers came forward, said TikToker Paul Arnott, 29, who flew in to help with the search.

Jay's father Warren and older brother Zak were spotted at the search site.

Warren spoke from the mountainside, saying: “It's a bit disappointing that there are no Brits apart from Paul, but I suppose to them he's just a young Brit who came here and got drunk.

“I'm grateful to those who came here because you can see how dangerous it is and what gets me is the trollers who attack us because we're not looking.

“This is not the local park, these are big mountains, the terrain is dangerous, put yourself in our shoes, would you go out in these conditions?

“It's tough, it's tough, we leave it to the professionals and I'm grateful to those who came today and I want to thank them for what they do.”

Despite the police's massive appeal for volunteer experts, it is unclear why the call for help was not answered by more people.

Spanish police also refused help from their British counterparts, saying they had all the resources they needed as of last week.

A source told The Sun: “We have a feeling this weekend is going to be absolutely crucial. A tremendous amount of resources and effort are being expended in the next 48 hours.

“It's not all or nothing, but investigators are sincerely hoping that this weekend will provide the breakthrough they are hoping for.”

Police also announced they were opening an investigation into the theft of a Rolex watch hours before Jay's disappearance.

Taxi drivers and bar staff who were working near the Papagayo Beach Club on June 17 are set to be questioned by investigators after a fight reportedly broke out on the Tenerife beach.

Jay was seen partying at the busy venue shortly before it closed.

It is unclear how Jay's disappearance could be linked to the incident – but officers are said to be examining CCTV footage from security cameras.

And now cops are hoping to speak to new witnesses who may have seen the fight unfold – and have information about Jay.

A source in Tenerife told The Sun: “Any leads that could provide information on Jay's whereabouts will be investigated.”
