Jay Slater's desperate family treks 2,000ft 'badlands' ravine in search of British teenager as they plead for end to 'living nightmare'

The family of missing British teenager Jay Slater have pleaded for their “living nightmare” to end as they scour a remote ravine in search of him.

Jay's mum Debbie, dad Warren and brother Zak have all flown to Tenerife to take part in the mammoth search operation, which is now in its seventh day.

Jay, 19, went missing on Monday while on holiday with two friends for the Tenerife NRG 2024 festival.

Sunday night he went to a rave with these two friends, Lucy and Brad, but left with two new people he had just met.

After returning to their accommodation in Teno Rural Park, Jay missed the bus home Monday morning and had to walk 10 hours.

He phoned Lucy Law in a panic to tell her he was lost in the middle of nowhere, his phone was about to die and he needed water.

It comes like…

Firefighters are continuing their search today near Masca, north of Tenerife.
Jay's mother, Debbie Duncan, 55, said in a tearful interview Wednesday that the search was a “living nightmare.”

That was the last time anyone heard from him and around 9 a.m. a missing person's report was filed, sparking a massive rescue operation.

Debbie Duncan, Jay's devastated mother, who flew out Tuesday, sobbed as she pleaded for help to find her missing son.

She told ITN in an emotional interview on Wednesday: “It's just a real living nightmare. It's like a dream – it's like nothing is happening.

“I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I just want my baby back. Please, anyone who can help me, look for it.”

On Saturday, Jay's father Warren Slater, in tears, said: “I just want my boy back” as he overlooks the search area with his other son Zak.

It was revealed on Friday that the Lancashire teenager was last seen by the owner of the Airbnb where he stayed on Sunday evening.

Ophelia, the owner of the Casa Abuela Tina vacation rental, said she saw him “walking fast” into a dangerous ravine in the vast mountainous area near Masca.

Rescue efforts focused Friday on an area known by locals as the “badlands,” running down a 2,000-foot ravine in remote Teno Park.

Residents and experts have warned of perilous conditions in the area: where the air is “thin,” temperatures change rapidly and mountains drop abruptly to the water below.

As the search enters its seventh day today, temperatures are expected to reach 29 degrees.

The UV index is also at “extreme”, with a figure of 11 and 12 peaking around 1 p.m. – anything above 11 is classified as extreme and dangerous.

On Friday, Lancashire Police offered to help Spain's Guardia Civil in their efforts to find the teenager.

But Tenerife police rejected the offer and insisted they had the “resources” needed to find him.

Jay's mother Debbie later criticized the investigation into her son's disappearance for not allowing British cops to contribute.

The mother also told the Guardian she spent eight hours in a police station as they revealed plans to step up rescue efforts.

Two new pieces of information came to light on Saturday, including a possible sighting of Jay following his disappearance.

Debbie told Mail Online that a witness went to the police and claimed to have seen Jay sitting on a bench with the two men 3.5 miles from his last known location in Santiago del Teide.

The heartbroken mother said she feared “something untoward” had happened to the teenager.

And a shocking new photo of the teenager showed him splashing around a crowded rave before disappearing on Sunday night.
