Jay Slater: Police call off search for missing British teenager in Tenerife area | UK News

A search for Jay Slater in an area of ​​Tenerife has been called off, police said.

The British teenageroriginally from Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn in Lancashire, has been missing in Tenerife since June 17, when he disappeared the morning after a rave party.

The Civil Guard called on Saturday for volunteers to join a “massive search” in the Masca area – near his last known location – and have now confirmed it has been completed.

Police are keeping the investigation open and may still launch searches in the south of the island, but have not provided an update.

Mr Slater was on holiday with friends on the Spanish island, when he visited the north-west mountain village of Masca after attending the NRG music festival on Sunday evening.

The next morning, the apprentice mason called a friend with whom he had made the trip around 8:30 a.m. and told him he was going to walk back to his accommodation after missing the bus – a journey that would take 11 hours.

Speaking to his friend, Mr Slater also said he was lost and needed water, with only 1% charge on his phone.

Since then, the local police and the Civil Guard, with Mr. Slater's familyI was looking for him.

The last person to see Mr. Slater was Masca resident Ofelia Medina Hernandez, who spoke to the teenager at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 17.

Ms Hernandez said she told him a bus was due to arrive at 10am as he was apparently hoping to return to his accommodation.

However, he started walking – and she said she then drove past him because he was “walking fast”.

Since his disappearance, rumors and conspiracy theories have emerged. amid online speculation on social media.

Some social media detectives even traveled to Tenerife to try to find him.
