Jay Slater missing: Teen's mother says she 'didn't sleep' as she pleads directly with son – World News

Debbie Duncan has admitted she is “not coping well” in the search for her son Jay Slater, who went missing on Tenerife after attending a music festival on the island.

The mother of missing British teenager Jay Slater said she “didn’t sleep” and “couldn’t give up” on her son.

When asked how the family was coping with the situation, Debbie Duncan said: “We're not. I'm not doing very well at all. I haven't slept, I'm exhausted. It was horrible. I can't give up on him, I just can't.” Debbie Duncan, Jay Slater's mother, said she did not know whether Spanish authorities had refused an offer of help from the UK because They considered it “an insult”.




Asked whether the Spanish authorities should have accepted help from Lancashire Police, Ms Duncan said: “I think they said they had enough resources and they didn't have need help from the English police. I don't know if they find it an insult – I really don't know. I really do not know. They say they have enough resources to continue the investigation… I don't know, I don't know.

When asked if her head had been spinning for the past few days, she replied: “It's true, it's true. People say, “Yes, I understand” – no, you don’t understand, you don’t understand. Debbie Duncan said “we just need you home” as she appealed to her missing son Jay Slater. Asked what her message for Mr Slater would be, she told the PA news agency: “We just need you at home – we just need him at home. »

Meanwhile, Jay's father made an emotional visit to witness the search for his son and sobbed: “I just want the boy back.” Warren Slater, 58, was supported by Jay's brother Zak at the scene in Masca, near where the apprentice mason was last seen shortly after 8am on Monday morning.


As police and mountain experts spent a sixth straight day searching for Jay, Warren and Zak also joined nine of Jay's friends. This was the first time Jay's family members felt able to visit the area. Warren and Zak, 24, hugged each other in solidarity while watching the search.

Debbie also spoke out against online trolls and conspiracy theorists who target her and her family. She said: “People keep asking on social media 'why am I not up there?' and calling me the new Karen Matthews. I just can't face it.
