Jay Slater missing: Teen's mother reveals new sighting of 19-year-old with two men in Tenerife

Jay Slater's mother makes desperate appeal to search for missing teenager in Tenerife

Jay Slater's mother has revealed a possible new sighting of her missing son with two men in Tenerife, ten hours after he was last officially seen.

Debbie Duncan, 55, claimed someone saw the missing 19-year-old looking “in bad shape” as he sat on a bench around 6pm on Monday.

She told the Mail Online: “He was with two men who looked a bit worse for wear, and they were near a church, this guy came forward and told the police and they are investigating. We don't know for sure if it was Jay, but it's a start.

“They said it was around 6 p.m., ten hours after he was seen… but if it was him, what was he doing there and who are these two men?”

Jay attended a music festival on Saturday evening and was last officially seen on Sunday around 8 a.m., when he twice asked a cafe owner what time a bus was arriving, before leaving .

Fifteen minutes later, he called his friend to tell him he was lost, dehydrated and had only one percent of his phone battery left.

His last known location, which was sent by his phone at 8:50 a.m., placed him on a path in the mountainous terrain of Teno Rural National Park.

What did his friends and family say?

Jay's friends and family have raised concerns that he may have been taken against his will.

His mother, Debbie Duncan, flew to Tenerife, in Spain's Canary Islands, on Tuesday morning to search for him.

Ms Duncan said she feared her son, who is an apprentice bricklayer, had “been taken against his will”.

She said: “It’s just traumatic and it doesn’t feel real. It's just horrible, it's horrible. I think he was arrested against his will with what was said, but that's in the hands of the police.

She added that the police who carried out the search had been “very efficient”.

Where did the authorities look?

A specialist mountain rescue team, including a police helicopter, was deployed to search for Jay.

A Civil Guard spokesperson said it was focusing on the area around the village of Masca, which is close to its last known location in the north.

On Wednesday, authorities briefly shifted their search to the south of the island, near where Jay was staying with friends in the tourist hotspots of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.

However, they later returned the search to Teno Rural Park after Jay's alleged sighting was deemed false.
