Jay Slater – latest updates: Locals report teenager 'watching Euro 2024 matches' in Tenerife after latest contact

Jay Slater's father makes six-word appeal to son during visit to research site

Spanish police spoke to several people who said they saw Jay Slater watching Euro 2024 matches after his last contact with friends, a local mayor said.

Emilio José Navarro, mayor of the city of Santiago del Teide, said police had questioned a number of people who thought they had seen the 19-year-old.

Police are examining grainy CCTV footage from the town, located about three and a half miles from the Teno Rural Mountain Park – the last known location of the apprentice mason – to determine if it is a possible sighting.

The image, shared by the family with media, shows a person walking in the city and was captured about 10 hours after the last signal from Jay's phone.

“We know the police are investigating (the CCTV footage). They requested the security cameras from the town hall and are also working with the company that manages these cameras,” Mr. Navarro said.

“The police come for a week and search, then they leave. Sometimes it can take months to find a body because the mountains are too difficult to search.

“People have said he's been seen here but no one knows anything. His family has been here but there's no indication he's here, as far as I know, no shops or cafes have seen him.”
