Missing teen Jay Slater may not be missing at all according to an ex-cop who says things “don't add up.”

Graham Wettone, who was a member of the Metropolitan Police for 30 years, said the apprentice bricklayer, who has been missing since June 17, may need “further scrutiny” as Tenerife police have ended their search. Former policeman Whettone said local police needed to consider whether a third party was involved and pursue “criminal” reasoning.

Drones, dogs and search teams from around the world have gathered on the Spanish island to search for the missing 19-year-old. Jay's parents are said to be “devastated” that the search order was canceled.

Former police officer Graham Wettone says third-party involvement cannot be ruled out

Speaking to the MailOnline, former police officer Graham said: “It seems to me, at first glance, that they are just focusing on the mountain, but I hope they are looking at other avenues, including crime. this case closely and I discuss it with colleagues and it's certainly a very bizarre case, a lot of things just don't add up.”

The search for Jay has since been called off as of today (June 30), according to Tenerife police. A source close to Jay's family said they were heartbroken by the decision to call off the search and believed it was because “the trolls had won”.

The UK family source told The Sun: “Jay's family can't help but think the trolls have won and got their way. So many people sent horrible messages which only added to the family's torment.

“They’re not going to stop looking for Jay or give up. They’re going to stay in Tenerife and try to do everything they can to keep the momentum going and find Jay. They’ve tried to get in touch with groups in Tenerife and beyond that specialize in missing persons. Jay’s family knew the search would eventually stop. They understand that. But it was a nightmare scenario that they didn’t want to think about.”
