It's been a distressing day for residents of this northeast Raleigh community. Everyone was finally able to return home at nightfall.

Neighboring apartments were evacuated as a precaution. Officers surrounded the apartment complex and worked for nearly seven hours to get the man out.

Around 5:30 p.m., police entered the apartment to enforce the eviction order and evict the man. During the attempt to remove him, Deputy Michael Reitmann fired his gun, wounding Lundwall.

Lundwall was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries.

Investigators have not revealed why the deputy ended his fun. Reitmann is on administrative leave, which is standard policy in such cases.

The investigation is being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation.
