Jamey Noel remains in jail on $1.5 million bail despite 60-day sentence | WDRB News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — As of Saturday, former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel has completed his 60-day jail sentence and could return home.

But his $1.5 million bond stands in the way. Noel has not posted bond and remains in custody at the Scott County Jail.

Indiana's attorney general has frozen his assets, so someone else will likely have to post bail to get him out.

“With all this luxury and the money you would have taken, I think $1.5 million bail is not appropriate, you should be able to release this without problem, with everything you have,” he said. Judge Larry Medlock said in court Tuesday.

Medlock called Tuesday to increase Jamey Noel's bail after six more charges were filed.

“I may be wrong, but my responsibility lies with the citizens of Clark County and the state of Indiana,” Medlock said. “And I think that’s what needs to be done in their best interest and restore their faith in the rule of law.”

Noel now faces 31 charges, including theft, fraud and tax evasion. An audit found that several business names were used for the Utica Township and New Chapel Ems arson.

This made it more difficult to track public funds.

“You always seem to think the Utica Volunteer Fire Department is your personal piggy bank,” Medlock said. “Meanwhile, every day, individuals are trying to survive by working paycheck to paycheck with their own money – which they worked hard for – while you were out flaunting luxuries acquired allegedly at the expense taxpayers.”

Auditors said that from 2019 to 2023, New Chapel EMS received approximately $3.8 million from taxpayers in Clark and Floyd counties.

During the same period, Noel allegedly authorized approximately $4.4 million to be billed to New Chapel EMS Amex.

“You had or had a plane, a hidden train, exotic motor vehicles, a harem of women, at least three mansions,” Medlock said.

His home on Old Taylor Bridge is his primary residence, but records indicate he also owns a home on Turnberry Drive near the Jeffersonville Riverfront.

Auditors said he used New Chapel's credit card to purchase new appliances worth $16,000, along with thousands of other home repairs.

As for the exotic and classic cars, police said they were allegedly stored in a barn where car lifts were also allegedly purchased fraudulently.

Misty and Kasey Noel face several criminal charges for theft and tax evasion. Kasey Noel was arrested in March on nine charges, including five counts of theft and four counts of tax evasion. Search warrants in Jamey Noel's corruption case indicate his daughter billed the Utica Volunteer Fire Department and New Chapel EMS more than $100,000.

According to the detailed charges, Kasey Noel purchased clothing, tanning services, cosmetics, manicure and pedicure services, food, tickets, travel, alcohol, utilities, cosmetics vaping, gasoline, Netflix and items from Amazon. The charges occurred between October 2018 and September 2023, totaling $108,660.59.

A jury trial for Jamey Noel is expected to begin in November.
