JaDynn Jones, 14, missing from Mission Bend

JaDynn Jones, a 14-year-old boy, went missing from the Withers Ridge area of Mission Bend on June 15.

He was last seen by his mother at 2:39 a.m. at their home, wearing a navy blue shirt and black pants.

JaDynn has special needs and might be nervous if approached.

JaDynn's mother, Shirly Mapp, has been searching tirelessly for her son.

Jones, who suffers from emotional problems and depression, collapsed after his toys were confiscated and was put on time out before being told to go to bed.

“When I woke up, he was gone. And he just disappeared. He’s done it before, but every time he leaves the house, he’ll end up at the park down the street, right in front of him, walking in circles with his head down. Or he’ll sit behind a convenience store near the house. And I don’t know what draws him to either of those places, but that’s where he would be. Now he’s disappeared without a trace. He just left,” Mapp explained.

“When I made the initial report that JaDynn was missing, I was told he would have gone into their system and put on BOLO (Be On the Lookout). But he didn’t go in until I came back and spoke with another detective,” Mapp said. “It was only then that the situation escalated and I discovered that one of the other detectives had seen my son walking in a park near her house.”

Mapp shared his frustrations with law enforcement's response, saying, “The Fort Bend County Sheriff is treating this like a hit-and-run case, like he doesn't deserve to be found because he was already gone. It amazes me that someone who is supposed to find missing and exploited children would say, “Didn’t he run away last time?” and imply that they are not going to waste resources on him.

JaDynn's vulnerability due to her special needs is a major concern for Mapp.

“He doesn't realize he's in danger. He can talk to anyone and think they're his friend,” she said.

Mapp also detailed the difficulties in locating JaDynn, mentioning a detective who was convinced he saw JaDynn walking near her home several mornings but who, after several days of rain, no longer saw him.

“If he had been reported missing in a BOLO, she would have recognized my son and done something because she was very worried and scared for him,” Mapp said.

In his desperate search for JaDynn, Mapp drives relentlessly, looking for any sign of his son.

“I drove day and night looking for my son. I look at nearby stores and grocery stores, but he needs to get food. He doesn’t have any money,” Mapp said. “I don’t understand why the situation isn’t getting worse. He's a child, not an adult, and he's out there somewhere.

The community is asked to keep an eye on JaDynn and report any sightings or information to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.
