Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reports teen shot in Southpoint area – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) announced an investigation into a shooting that occurred in the Southpoint area near the 4600 block of Salisbury Road.

According to JSO, around 11 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person shot at 4600 Salisbury Road.

When they arrived, they found a young woman in her late teens who had suffered a single gunshot wound to her shoulder. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a nearby hotel, believed to be the Wyndham Garden Hotel. When an unknown vehicle approached, the victim was in a white sedan with two other individuals. A person exited the vehicle with a handgun and shot the victim's car approximately 17 times.

The victim was the only person hit, and all other bullets hit the car, causing no additional property damage. The victims in the car were preparing to leave the hotel even though their stay was over.

JSO is currently processing evidence and contacting witnesses.

Although the incident appears to be targeted, it is too early to determine which person was the intended target. One of the two people accompanying the victim cooperates with the investigation, while the other does not.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark colored car of unknown make and model. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage as part of the investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation and this story will be updated as details become available.
