Jacksonville man charged with federal drug trafficking after May arrest – WLDS

A Jacksonville man who had his home searched by multiple authorities in early May has been indicted in federal court on drug trafficking charges.

Christopher S. Robinson, 28, of the 600 block of East State Street, was charged with possession of methamphetamine 50 grams or more with intent to deliver and possession of 40 grams or more fentanyl with intent to deliver.

The charges stem from a May 13 caseth a raid on Robinson's residence by members of the Jacksonville Police Department and the Central Illinois Enforcement Group during which 0.58 pounds of methamphetamine, 0.36 pounds of fentanyl, 1.8 pounds of cannabis, 76 pills of Xanax, an unknown number of other prescription pills, 13 pint bottles of Promethazine with dextromethorphan cough syrup and a small amount of psilocybin mushrooms were all seized. The search was authorized after a search warrant was obtained following a month-long investigation into drug activity at the location.

Robinson was initially charged with drug trafficking and drug possession the next day in Morgan County Circuit Court. The Morgan County State's Attorney's Office dropped the local charges on May 28.th to postpone the charges to the higher court.

According to charging documents, because Robinson already served prison time for a 2015 aggravated battery charge, he now faces up to 10 years to life in prison for the two drug charges.

Robinson made his first appearance in Springfield federal court Thursday before Judge Karen L. McNaught. He has been appointed a federal public defender and will return to court on June 11.th for a remand hearing. Judge McNaught also issued a written order directing that Robinson be placed in the custody of the U.S. Marshal's Service prior to the detention hearing.
