Jackson firefighters investigate vacant building fire on Monument Street

The Jackson Fire Department is investigating what led to a vacant building fire. Fire officials said the fire at a vacant two-story building was located on Monument Street near Capitol Street. According to area residents, the building served as an elementary school. Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Armon said the fire already happened about six months ago. Residents said this is not the first time a vacant building fire has been reported in the area. “The city is neglecting this area,” resident James Brooks said. Armon said no injuries were reported from the fire.
