Jackson County Sheriffs Hold Upcoming DUII Victims Panel | Best Stories

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is hosting a free DUII victim class on Wednesday, June 5, focused on teen safety on the road.

The panel takes place every month, but this month people aged 15 to 20 have priority for participation and attention, because statistically the main cause of death among adolescents is traffic accidents. road, and a third of all deaths in car accidents involve an impaired driver.

“We wanted to isolate that 15- to 20-year-old population within our community and just invite them to come to class.” ” Said Jackson County Sheriff's Patrol Deputy Aaron Grissom.

The panel shows videos of incidents and hears speeches, not only from law enforcement and prosecutors, but also from victims and former perpetrators of driving under the influence.

“Receiving a message from a police officer, a teacher, a parent or someone who is in a position of authority over you. It's a completely different thing to receiving the same message from someone who was himself an offender, victim or other person involved,” Grissom said: “It just gives a lot more credibility.”

A statistic shared by Newswatch 12 by the sheriff's office is that one person dies every month in Jackson County in a car crash involving an impaired driver.

The panel will take place on Wednesday, June 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Smullin Health Education Center in Medford.
