Jackson County sheriff's deputy dies in off-duty accident

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of a fellow sheriff's deputy who was killed in an off-duty accident.

Dep. Christopher Davis was killed in a crash Saturday, May 25, at the intersection of Seymour and Mount Hope roads in Waterloo Township, Jackson County Sheriff Gary Schuette said in a Facebook post Sunday.

Michigan State Police are investigating the fatal crash.

Davis, a Jackson County native and graduate of Michigan Center High School, joined the sheriff's office in August 2022 and was recently named a full-time deputy in Parma Township.

He recently received the sheriff's highest honor, the Star of Valor, and was selected by the Michigan Sheriff's Association to receive the Distinguished Service Medal for his actions during the investigation of the Robinson Road homicide on July 30, 2023.

“Known for his constant smile and ability to make difficult situations better, Chris had a deep passion for law enforcement,” the post read. “He was an exceptional MP, a loving husband, brother and son. His death is a significant loss to his family, the sheriff's office and the community.
