'It happened right in front of our yard', neighbors shaken after fatal stabbing

GREEN BAY (NBC26) — Neighbors on Green Bay's east side are sharing their shock after a man was stabbed to death along their block.

  • The video shows the lawn where neighbors found the victim near S. Roosevelt and Cass streets.
  • Green Bay police said three people were in custody but have not yet been identified.
  • Neighbors say this isn't the first time violence has occurred in the area. They describe the neighborhood as “united.”

(The following is a transcript of the full broadcast story.)

“It became a personal thing because it happened right in our front yard,” said Chris Anderson of Green Bay.

What started out as a normal day for Anderson ended with paramedics and police in his yard.

“Then the cops came and I realized it was a homicide,” Anderson said.

Anderson said he didn't see the man fall on his lawn, but he saw paramedics trying to resuscitate him.

“(There was) blood and you could tell he had been stabbed and that was concerning,” Anderson said.

Neighbor Christine Creek Conrad saw the man across the street.

“Last night, I just couldn't unsee what I saw,” Creek Conrad said.

She said she was outside with a friend minutes before the man pulled into her neighbor's yard. She then saw the police and paramedics arrive.

“I think about his family, his friends, all the people in his life too,” Creek Conrad said. “Because I have kids the same age, so it’s difficult.”

Neighbor Eric Drzewiecki said this isn't the first time there has been violence in the area.

“The fact that we had a shooting right on this street, about a block away, where a young man died, and then a shooting a few houses down here, and the young child who died getting caught in the blinds, all of this happened so close to home,” Drzewiecki said.

Neighbors say the neighborhood is very close-knit.

“So maybe because of that, there's insufficient oversight in the sense that they're like, hey, we need to put our resources elsewhere, and then things start to go poop,” Drzewiecki said.

Neighbors say they are thinking of the victim and her family and tell me they feel safe in their neighborhood.

Police say three people are in custody but have not yet released their names.
