Hamas issued a new statement on the proposed ceasefire agreement, saying that if Israel agreed to “end its war and aggression” in Gaza, they would “reach a comprehensive agreement including a of global exchange,” Hamas said in the statement.

“Today we informed the mediators of our clear position that if the occupation ceases its war and aggression against our people in Gaza, we are ready to reach a comprehensive agreement including a comprehensive exchange agreement,” added Hamas.

Israel said it submitted a ceasefire proposal to Hamas earlier this week and was awaiting the group's review of the agreement. Israeli officials later said they expected the war in Gaza to last until the end of this year.

A high-level Egyptian source has denied Israeli reports of the existence of tunnels on Egypt's border with Gaza, Egyptian state newspaper Al-Qahera News reported.

The source called the reports “lies” promoted by Israel to “cover up its military failure.” He added that there was “no communication with the Israeli side” regarding the allegations.

There has been no official comment from Cairo since this announcement.

Egypt has destroyed hundreds of smuggling tunnels along its eastern border with Gaza over the past decade as part of its fight against Islamist militants in the Sinai border region.

Egyptian officials have said a possible Israeli takeover of Philadelphia, a largely demilitarized buffer zone along the Gaza-Egypt border, could violate the 1979 peace agreement between Egypt and Israel.

Israel presented a new ceasefire proposal and hostage release agreement on Monday, which has now been passed to Hamas, an Egyptian security source told ABC News.

The mediators are expecting a response from Hamas within 24 hours, the source said.

This is the first time Israel has taken the first step to submit a draft proposal since the start of the war, according to the source. Previous proposals were initiated by Egyptian and Qatari mediators.

The source indicated that talks could resume soon, without providing a specific timetable.
