ISP investigates fatal police-involved shooting in Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. – Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday evening in Anderson.

According to Indiana State Police, shortly after 9 p.m., deputies from the Madison County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Fairview Street in an attempt to carry out a arrest warrant.

When officers arrived, they encountered a man sitting behind the wheel of a white Chevrolet Impala parked in the driveway. Police said the officers attempted to deescalate the situation by giving several verbal commands to the man involved to show his hands and exit the vehicle. The man refused to obey the officer's commands, police said.

During the encounter, an officer shot the man with his department-issued weapon, police said.

Officers on scene immediately began securing the scene and assisting the man. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Madison County Coroner's Office identified the man as Lataurus Harrison, 44, of Indianapolis.

Police say no officers were injured during the confrontation.

At the request of the Madison County Sheriff, Indiana State Police detectives responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. Police were able to recover a firearm from the front passenger seat of the vehicle the man was in.

No further information has been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.
