ISP: Indianapolis man arrested, charged with attempted murder after shooting on I-70 in Morgan County

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police have arrested an Indianapolis man for his alleged role in a shooting on Interstate 70 in Morgan County.

According to a press release, Dean A. Watson, 18, was taken into custody Monday afternoon. He was later booked into the Morgan County Jail on a charge of attempted murder.

Police first became aware of Watson's activity last week when they received a report of a shooting on westbound I-70 just west of State Road 39. ISP said that during their investigation, they observed a vehicle that “exhibited damage consistent with gunshots.”

Law enforcement eventually determined that the vehicle was being driven by the victim at the time of the shooting. ISP reported that the victim was the only person in the vehicle when it was struck by gunfire. The victim did not sustain any injuries during the incident.

After the shooting, investigators quickly identified the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. ISP reported that investigators then executed a series of warrants, each of which yielded new leads in the case.

Police monitored Watson's vehicle, tracking its travels from an Indianapolis residence to a gas station. Once the vehicle arrived at the gas station, police took Watson into custody.

ISP said officers found a loaded handgun on Watson while patting him down. On Tuesday, police executed a search warrant on the vehicle Watson was driving at the time of his arrest. Investigators found an additional firearm, ammunition and a large number of vape pen cartridges during a search of the vehicle.

At the time of this article's publication, Watson's photo had not yet been released. No additional information about the shooting has been released.
