Iowa WR Brown arrested for OWI | News, Sports, Jobs

Kaleb Brown

IOWA CITY — Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown was arrested Sunday morning on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and possession of a false driver's license, police said.

Iowa City police said in a report that Brown, 20, was seen driving a heavily damaged SUV with one wheel turned “completely sideways.” The report states Brown backed the vehicle onto a lawn and spun the tires. He said he had “watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, poor balance and a strong odor of ingested alcoholic beverage on his breath.”

Brown was in possession of a fake ID indicating an age over 21, police said. He refused to take a breathalyzer test, was jailed and then released, according to police reports.

A public defender was being appointed for Brown, according to an initial court appearance order. It was not known Monday whether a lawyer had been appointed.

Iowa released a statement saying Brown is subject to the university's student-athlete code of conduct and team rules. It does not specify potential sanctions.

Brown, a junior from Chicago, caught 22 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in 11 games last season for the Hawkeyes. He joined the Iowa program after spending a year at Ohio State.
