The United States Department of Justice sends this information as shown below:

THE CITY OF OKLAHOMA – REYES LUIS HOLGUIN, 31, of Phoenix, Arizona, was sentenced to an additional 48 months in federal prison for assaulting a federal corrections officer, announced United States Attorney Robert J. Troester.

According to public records, in August 2023, Holguin was being held at the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City, when he entered a federal correctional officer's office without authorization. Holguin slammed the door and told the officer, “You are not leaving the office. » Holguin then attacked the officer before being quickly subdued by the same officer. The police officer was slightly injured. Following this incident, on November 7, 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Holguin for assault on a federal officer involving physical contact.

On February 1, 2024, Holguin pleaded guilty and admitted to physically assaulting the federal correctional officer.

At the June 5, 2024, sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Bernard M. Jones sentenced Holguin to 48 months in federal prison, to be served after his current sentence – a 10-year sentence for distribution of fentanyl in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, followed by three years of supervised release. In announcing the sentence, the Court noted the serious nature of Holguin's assault on the officer, his criminal history, and the need to deter Holguin and other federal inmates from engaging in similar behavior.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Special Investigative Services of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney Bow Bottomly prosecuted the case.
