Information on the Petaluma Barn Fire. – The Sonoma County Gazette

A large Petaluma egg farm, located at 700 Cavanaugh Lane, was the scene of a massive fire Thursday afternoon, sending a huge column of smoke into the air.

The fire was reported around 2:22 p.m. and at least four different fire departments responded to the blaze, according to The Press Democrat.

The fire did not pose a threat to anyone in the city of Petaluma and no evacuation orders were issued, according to a Petaluma Fire news release.

Battalion 91 was the first to arrive at the barn and reported heavy gunfire inside, according to The Press Democrat. No fire hydrants were present in the area and more water trucks were dispatched to help put out the flames.

The barn now appears to have completely collapsed. In drone footage captured by Direct Action Everywhere, the roof of the huge barn is completely destroyed and minor fire damage appears to have affected a nearby field. It's possible a nearby barn also suffered damage, but it's hard to tell from the images.

According to Direct Action Everywhere, the egg farm sells products under the brand name “Judy's Family Farm.”

It is currently unknown if any birds were killed in the fire.

Authorities asked residents to stop reporting the fire and smoke.
