Influencer Mom Sentenced for Falsely Claiming Latino Couple Tried to Abduct Her Children

Northern California 'mom influencer' sentenced for falsely accusing a Latin American couple of attempting to kidnap their children.

Katie Sorensen was sentenced Thursday to 30 days in jail and 60 days of work release for making a false report about a crime, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

He was also ordered to perform 12 months of probation “during which she was ordered not to be present on social media, to submit to warrantless searches and seizures, to turn on her electronic devices, to complete 4 hours of training on implicit bias, as well as various fines and fees,” according to CBS News.

The 31-year-old was convicted in April for an incident in December 2020, when she posted a video alleging a man and woman attempted to kidnap her two children from a grocery store parking lot. Michaels crafts in Petaluma, California.

The accused couple, Sadie Vega-Martinez and Eddie Martinez, were later cleared of any wrongdoing, and an investigation “produced no evidence” to support Sorensen's allegations.

“MS. Sorensen's report was found to be false and strongly contradicted by the accused couple as well as the recorded video that was obtained,” prosecutors said.

Before the incident, Sorensen had a social media presence as a mother influencer on her Instagram account @motherhoodessentials and also posted about QAnon conspiracy theories, according to KPIX-TV, a CBS affiliate in the San Francisco Bay Area .

Sorensen's videos of the fake kidnapping attempt were viewed more than 4 million times but have since been deleted.

Sadie Vega-Martineztold Elle magazine in April that she is satisfied with the verdict.

“After [Sorensen] avoided accountability for years, then learned she was found guilty and walked out in handcuffs…yes, justice was served,” Vega-Martinez told Elle.
