Strong points: Fire information staff will be stationed opposite Bode's, near the Abiquiu Post Office, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (May 25-27) from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. to meet members of the public and answer questions .

Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team 4, Incident Commander Aaron Hulburd, will be briefed this afternoon to take command of the fire on Monday, May 27. A CIMT has the additional resources needed to plan and manage the long-term duration of this fire. to meet the intention of letting fire play its natural role in the landscape.

Fire activity: Yesterday on the northeast side, where it was spotted Wednesday in the area of ​​the 2017 Ojitos Fire, Interagency Hotshot teams from Sacramento and Black Mesa worked to establish an anchor point. Crews used helicopters to drop water drops to cool the edge of the fire and attached the fire line to natural retainers. The Black Mesa crew conducted strategic fire operations to create a black line, removing combustibles between the edge of the fire and the fire lines. These teams will continue their fire operations from east to west to create a good line south of the fire.

The western edge of the fire, from the handline on the northwest perimeter to where crews conducted fire operations along FR 473 Wednesday, is holding. IHCs Santa Fe, Mount Taylor, and Carson continued to prepare along FR 437 through FR 64, including conducting strategic fire operations toward a Line of Control. Two masticators continue to advance on the lines west of the fire. The Sandia Helitack team worked to prepare the USFS rifle range and kiosks infrastructure south of the fire.

Weather report: A red flag warning is in effect today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dry weather and strong winds are expected. The high temperature will be around 70 degrees, with low humidity around 11 to 16 percent. Winds will be from the southwest at 7-16 mph, shifting westward at 18-23 mph in the afternoon with gusts up to 40 mph.

Smoke: Smoke is visible and local communities may experience smoke impacts along Highways 96, 112 and 84.

Closures: Closure Order 03-10-01-24-02 is in effect and includes all National Forest System lands located within the boundaries of the Coyote Ranger District, beginning at Continental Divide Trail #298 on the Highway 96 north across Forest Road (FR) 77, through the Chama River Canyon Wilderness to Skull Bridge (Ojitos Trailhead) on FR 151. FR 11 northwest to the boundary of the Chama River Canyon Wilderness and the junction with FR 8; FR 169 (from the junction with FR 11) south to FR 473; FR 473 south to FR 64; FR 64 South to the junction of FR 77; and FR 77 east to the Chama River Canyon Wilderness boundary. FR 77 from the forest line and County Road 418 to the junction of FR 64 and FR 77. The Chama River Canyon Wilderness south of the Rio Gallina and south of the Rio Chama.
