Strong points: The Indios fire was relatively calm yesterday as it continued to smolder and crawl on the forest floor, consuming fuel near the control lines. Cloud cover persisted over the fire area while humidity levels remained high, with parts of the fire receiving light rain. As a result, the fire produced very little smoke yesterday. The Incident Management Team will offer the public a second opportunity to meet fire managers and ask questions about the Indios Fire during an open house on Sunday June 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the conference room at Coronado High School, 1903 NM-96, Gallina, NM.

Operations: Yesterday, crews completed bulldozer line repairs near Forest Road 473 and used a grader to make improvements to Forest Road 8. Firefighters completed mulching on both sides of Forest Road 64A and continued mulching along forest road 169E. Along the southwest perimeter of the fire area, crews repaired handlines and conducted mulching activities as necessary. Firefighters patrolled the southeast perimeter to ensure no heat remained along the control lines. Road closure signs were added on Forest Road 77 and fire managers assessed the needs on Forest Road 170 for drainage and erosion improvements. Air Operations conducted a reconnaissance mission using an unmanned aircraft system, or drone, to help resource advisors monitor the effects of the fire on the Continental Divide Trail. Firefighters assigned to the initial attack group remain ready to respond to any new fires in the area, in anticipation of storms arriving this weekend.

Weather report: Today the fire area will experience warmer temperatures and drier air than yesterday and while precipitation chances are reduced, there is still a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms today. The chance of precipitation increases again on Sunday and temperatures are expected to be cooler. By Monday, more cloud cover, lower temperatures and a higher chance of precipitation are expected. The region is expected to experience warmer and drier conditions next Tuesday through Thursday.

Smoke: Minimal smoke impacts are expected for the foreseeable future. Lightly dispersed visible smoke will diminish over time. Smoke detectors have been installed and will remain in the communities of Coyote, Gallina, Cañones and at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert. Closures: The Santa Fe National Forest has issued an emergency closure of the area due to the Indios Fire. The complete closure order (n° 03-12-05-23-22) and the plan are available on Inciweb. Camping and water will be available at the Coyote Ranger Station for Continental Divide Trail hikers affected by this closure.

Security: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the area, which includes unmanned aircraft systems or drones. For more information on the dangers drones pose to wildfirefighting aircraft and ground personnel, see:
