Indiana daycare arrested for infant's death

Brittany Baylor was charged with aggravated battery resulting in death and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A southern Indiana babysitter was arrested Tuesday on felony charges after police say a child died in her care nearly two years ago.

Brittany Baylor, 35, a Jeffersonville resident and in-home babysitter, was charged with aggravated battery resulting in death and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

In July 2022, the Jeffersonville Police Department requested assistance from the Indiana State Police to investigate a case in which an unresponsive 6-month-old infant was found in Jeffersonville, according to a press release of the ISP.

EMS personnel initially transported the child to Clark Memorial Hospital, but ultimately transferred him to Kosair Children's Hospital (now Norton Children's Hospital) in Louisville. The baby died later that day.

ISP Detective Mike Bennett led the investigation. He interviewed the baby's parents and Baylor. He also spoke with pediatricians and attended an autopsy performed by the Kentucky medical examiner's office. The final autopsy report indicated that the child's death was due to a closed head injury sustained during an assault.

Detective Bennett submitted his findings to the Clark County Prosecutor's Office in September 2022. The prosecutor's office turned the report over to doctors at Norton Pediatric Protective Services for review. The press release states that the report was referred to Detective Bennett in May 2024 and the Clark County 4 Circuit Court issued an arrest warrant for Baylor on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Baylor was arrested Tuesday evening without incident and transported to the Clark County Jail.
