Eric Flowers, Keith Touchberry, Milo Thornton and Deborah Cooney

The Indian River County Taxpayers Association has announced the next sheriff debate, scheduled for June 17, 2024 at Indian River Charter High School located at 6055 College Ln, Vero Beach, FL 32966.

Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. This community event aims to provide a platform for sheriff candidates to present their policies and address public concerns.

The debate is organized into three parts, beginning with opening statements and questions from the Taxpayers' Association. Following this, key stakeholders such as the Law Enforcement Deputies Union and the Indian River County School District will ask their questions.

The evening will conclude with questions submitted by the audience and final statements from the candidates.

Attendees are asked to enter through the northeast entrance of the Charter High School auditorium. After the opening statements around 5:40 p.m., latecomers are asked to use the south entrance.

Audience members are reminded to turn off all electronic devices during the debate to maintain decorum and allow candidates to make full use of their speaking time.

The event will not offer catering services; however, the 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. schedule allows participants to dine before or after the discussions. A brief entrance ceremony will include the national anthem, a pledge of allegiance and an invocation, requiring participants to stand.

The Taxpayers Association plans to stream the event live on its Facebook page, encouraging those who cannot attend to watch it online.

Community members interested in submitting questions for debate are encouraged to submit them by email to the Taxpayers Association with the subject line “Sheriff’s Debate Question.” A selection of these questions will be presented to the candidates during the debate.

The event promises to be a pivotal moment in the local election season, giving voters a direct line to those vying for one of the most crucial roles in county law enforcement.
