Independence Day temperatures expected near 100 degrees, but heat advisory will soon end in D-FW

While Independence Day is expected to bring another high near 100 degrees and a heat warning, a mild cold front and scattered thunderstorms are expected through the weekend.

Thursday marks the 12th consecutive day of heat warnings in North Texas, a streak that will end at sundown, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. A high temperature of 102 degrees F is forecast with a heat index of about 105 degrees F, said Matt Stalley, a meteorologist with the weather service. Humidity Thursday is expected to be slightly lower than Wednesday, with humidity levels of 30 to 35 percent.

Despite the heat, conditions should be clear and perfect for watching the fireworks, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5) forecasts.

Officials encouraged people celebrating the holiday to drink plenty of water, stay in the shade and protect themselves from the heat by staying in an air-conditioned building, if possible. State officials also warned of the potential impact of Hurricane Beryl on the Gulf Coast.

“Tomorrow will probably be the last unusually warm day for a while,” Stalley said.

A mild cold front is expected to arrive starting Friday, bringing scattered thunderstorms and cooler temperatures. The slightly cooler temperatures are expected to persist through next week, with highs expected to range from 32 to 35°C and lows between 21 and 27°C.

Compared to the previous July 4th temperatures, 2024 is expected to be similar to the last two years. In 2023, there was a high of 99 and a low of 74, while in 2022, there was a high of 100 and a low of 81. On Independence Day 2021, there was a high of only 89, thanks to some rain on and around the holiday that year.
