INDIANAPOLIS — A woman suffered abrasions during a shooting in downtown Indianapolis Saturday.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of East Washington Street, near the Julia Carson Transit Center, on a report of shots fired. Dispatchers then received a second call that someone had been shot in the area.

When police arrived on scene, they found an adult female who had been injured during the incident.

IMPD described the victim's injuries as “minor/superficial injuries.” The person was examined on site by doctors and then released.

Police said they arrested two persons of interest while investigating the incident. IMPD aggravated assault detectives also responded to the scene to investigate.

Public police reporting systems indicate IMPD was first called to the area around 6:19 p.m.

In an update later that evening, police said they arrested Matthew Russ, 34, on charges of battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
