IMPD arrests federal fugitive on weapons charges

INDIANAPOLIS — A 32-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in East Indianapolis on various charges, including gun possession and resisting law enforcement warrants, according to the Police Department Metropolitan Indianapolis.

On Tuesday, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with detectives from the IMPD-FBI task force, identified and arrested Desmond Hess in the 2900 block of N. Drexel Avenue. Hess was a reported federal fugitive and was wanted in several states. and federal fees, including:


  • Possession of a machine gun
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Other firearms-related charges.

After obtaining a warrant to search the home, Hess was reportedly taken into custody without incident. Two other people who left the home, identified by police as Kevin Minton, 32, and Larry Thomas, 36, were also arrested on various gun and drug charges.

As police searched the home, detectives reportedly discovered the following:

  • $14,059 in US currency
  • Five handguns and a rifle
  • Five pounds of marijuana
  • Two pounds of meth
  • 1.5 pounds of cocaine
  • 10 grams of fentanyl.
