Illinois House Speaker Sued for Climate of “Fear and Anxiety” Among Staff

Members of Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch's office are suing over labor issues. The Illinois Legislative Staff Association said Welch was violating their rights by not bargaining collectively with them, despite Welch's campaigning for the labor rights amendment approved for the Illinois Constitution. They denounce a climate of “fear and anxiety” regarding their employment. Welch's office said Friday that it had not yet seen the lawsuit.

The last chance for candidates to vote is Monday

Monday is the deadline for candidates who did not run in the primaries to run in the November general election. Monday also happens to be the first hearing in a case challenging a recently enacted state law prohibiting the selection of such candidates. The potential applicants obtained a preliminary injunction, temporarily blocking enforcement of the law as the case progressed. The Illinois State Board of Elections said it would follow any court order.

State Fair Tickets!

The Illinois State Fair box office opens Monday for in-person ticket sales. Monday to Friday, operations will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On day one, all in-person Grandstand ticket purchasers will be entered into a drawing to win two pre-show tickets. Those who purchase tickets to Fairy Tales on Ice will also receive one free entry for each ice show ticket purchased.
