The number of illegal immigrant “getaways” has climbed to nearly 2 million under the Biden administration, a congressional source confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

About 1.9 million escapees, that is, illegal aliens who flee within the United States, have been recorded since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, a confirmed a congressional source. In addition to the increase in escapes, the number of “non-detained” cases from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has exploded to 7.4 million cases and is on track to reach 8 million by the end of the year.

The internal federal data was first reported by Fox News.

“These numbers are further proof of President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas’ radical commitment to open borders, as well as the serious crimes and misdemeanors committed by the Secretary to make it a reality,” the Secretary of State said Monday. House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green in a written statement, referring to Homeland. Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Laws passed by significant bipartisan majorities in Congress make it abundantly clear that illegal aliens should be detained, but Biden and Mayorkas have instead directed and overseen the mass release of illegal aliens into our communities,” said Green.

Unlike other foreign nationals who seek out immigration officials and seek asylum once they cross the U.S. border illegally, fugitives are observed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents who flee at inside the country before being apprehended. The Department of Homeland Security says it is not incapable of tracking their whereabouts in the United States.

The number of known escapades has continued to increase in recent years.

There were more than 1.6 million known escapades recorded between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, according to previously reported CBP data. This number eclipses all known escapades recorded in the Trump and Obama administrations from FY 2010 to FY 2020.

Due to the massive influx of asylum seekers appearing at the U.S.-Mexico border, increasing numbers of people are being released from physical detention and allowed to move freely within the United States , by being enrolled in ICE’s Alternative to Detention program. That non-detainee registry, which includes 7.4 million cases, has more than doubled since Biden took office, the Daily Caller News Foundation confirmed.

Green noted in his statement that the Biden administration has “systematically” requested fewer ICE beds to detain more illegal aliens and is not using all of the beds currently available.

“Would-be border crossers around the world are betting that if they cross under this administration, they will be released into the interior,” Green said. “These numbers show that it’s generally a winning bet to make.”

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
