KOLHAPUR: The Satara district administration on Saturday demolished eight illegally constructed cottages at a club in Mahabaleshwar belonging to the family of the teenager allegedly involved in the Porsche accident that killed two engineers in Pune on May 19.

The club was built on public land and run by a trust. The parents and grandparents of the teenager allegedly involved in the accident are members of the trust.

Although the land was leased for residential purposes, it was being used for commercial purposes, in violation of government land use laws.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had ordered the Satara Collector to bulldoze the club if its construction was found illegal, as claimed by local RTI activist Abhaysingh Havaldar.

Municipal council administrator Yogesh Patil said, “We had issued a notice to the owners, asking them to demolish the illegal structures themselves. When they did nothing, we razed eight houses on Saturday, as per the orders of the collectors.”

While thanking the CM, guardian minister and collector for their prompt action, Havaldar said the property should be taken over by the government.
