IDENTIFIED: Man dead after high-speed chase in Fresno | YourCentralValley.com

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man killed in a crash after a short chase on May 24 was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner's Office.

The coroner's office identified the man as Justin Yanez, 36, of Fresno.

According to sheriff's officers, on the afternoon of May 24, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle near the intersection of McKinley and Feland avenues in Fresno County. The motorcycle did not yield and fled at high speed.

A short chase ensues. Sheriff's officials say that shortly before 4:30 p.m., the motorcycle crashed into a sedan at the intersection of Shields and Valentine avenues after failing to stop at the posted stop sign.

Deputies say the driver of the motorcycle, Yanez, and a woman who was on the motorcycle with him were taken to the hospital. It was later announced that Yanez had succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the sedan was also transported to a local hospital for treatment, but was not seriously injured.

According to the sheriff's office, Yanez was confirmed to have an active arrest warrant on his record for traffic-related offenses.
