'I was crying' Fordyce residents describe shock of grocery store mass shooting | KLRT

FORDYCE, Ark. – The shock of a mass shooting that left three dead and several injured in Fordyce has shaken the community.

Police identified the suspect in the shooting as Travis Posey, 44, of New Endinburg, Arkansas. The shooting took place at a grocery store in the city, leaving a population of just over 3,000 people in shock.

“I was crying. I was nervous. I was broken down,” Amiya Doherty said.

“I've never seen anything like this happen in Fordyce, Arkansas,” said Otis Allen, a 60-year Fordyce resident.

Krenisha McWilliams, who has lived in the city for more than 30 years, said she has never had to “worry about things like this happening in our city because it never does.”

“I keep thinking in my head, 'Why?'” said Doherty, who added that she was in the parking lot during the shooting. “He shot at my mother’s car.”

Many people describe the scene as something from a horror movie.

Doherty said that at the time of the shooting, she feared for her life.

“I was praying and holding my sister’s hand because I was scared,” Doherty said.

Posey was booked into the Ouachita County Jail on three counts of capital murder. Additional charges are pending.
