I-86 closed near Avoca in Steuben County following police chase

New York State Police will hold a press conference at 9:45 p.m. to provide more information about Thursday's incident.

UPDATE — Police in Virginia have confirmed that a woman wanted for the alleged murder of three people has been arrested after a police chase ended in Steuben County.

According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, was arrested by New York State Police with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service around 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. Venable is wanted out of Virginia on June 6. charges of three counts of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., state troopers noticed a gray 2009 Honda Civic matching the description of the last known vehicle Venable was driving. Police attempted a traffic stop, but said the driver did not comply and a chase was initiated, at speeds well in excess of 100 mph.

Police say a tire deflation device was used at one point and Venable's vehicle stopped on the I-390 interchange. Venable was taken into custody without incident or injury to law enforcement or citizens.

The NYSP will receive an arrest warrant for Venable and arrangements will be made for his extradition to Virginia.

Police say on Tuesday, June 4, around 10 p.m., deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office responded to the 10500 block of White Street Court for a welfare check on the residents of the home.

When police entered the home, they found three of the residents dead, two men and a woman. Police said Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Anne Reese, 65, were the people found inside the home and suffered trauma to their upper bodies. Police confirmed Venable was the victims' roommate and had been named as the prime suspect.

AVOCA, N.Y. (WETM) — Motorists on eastbound Interstate 86 looking to head north on Interstate 390 must find an alternate route due to a police chase that blocked the exit ramp, state police confirmed.

According to New York State Police, a police pursuit from Western New York Troop A closed the eastbound ramp at Exit 36 ​​in Avoca, preventing traffic from proceeding towards I-390.

Video obtained from a motorist on I-86 shows at least 20 police vehicles from various police departments blocking the ramp. According to 511ny, the incident has been going on since at least 6:23 p.m. on Thursday, June 6.

Police say the person being chased is a woman, but no further information has been provided at this time. 18 News will update this story when more information becomes available.
