Huntsville police identify man killed in crash on Chapman Mountain

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has identified a man killed in a crash on Chapman Mountain Monday.

HPD identified the man as Willie McCormick, 68, of Huntsville.

HEMSI spokesman Don Webster said earlier this week that the crash occurred at the I-565 and Highway 72 interchange around 2:49 p.m. Monday.

Huntsville police said Monday the vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 72 East when it left the right side of the road and struck an embankment. HPD said the vehicle then overturned and ejected the driver, now identified as McCormick.

Webster said McCormick was pronounced dead at the scene.
