Human remains found in East Patchogue, still unidentified

Suffolk police homicide detectives are investigating human remains discovered along Montauk Highway in East Patchogue Thursday.

The remains have not been identified and it is unclear whether the investigation is connected to the two-week disappearance of 56-year-old Patchogue resident Yvette Leonard.

Leonard's son Malyk, who publicly used social media and his troops on the ground to lead a search for his mother, last spoke about the case on Facebook shortly before noon Thursday.

” Hello everyone. I have been informed that the police are currently making inquiries,” he wrote. “I'm glad they're starting to step up the search, even though it's been two weeks since my mother went missing and I haven't been informed of any major clues.

“Please keep my mother in your thoughts and prayers. I plan to come tomorrow or Saturday to continue the research,” he added.

In the comments sections of this post last night, Facebook users posted photos of what appeared to be police activity in East Patchogue.

Yvette Leonard disappeared around 8 p.m. on July 13. She was last walking on Terry and Edwards streets in Patchogue. Leonard wore a light blue shirt with dark-colored jeans and gray sneakers, Malyk Leonard reported. Furthermore, the portly woman is 1.78 m tall and has black and gray dreadlocks.

Malyk Leonard, one of Yvette's three children, reported that his mother suffered from schizophrenia and early depression and was bipolar. “Missing Person” flyers related to Leonard's disappearance are posted on storefronts and utility poles in downtown Patchogue.

This is a developing story. Please check with Greater Long Island for updates.
