How to hide other players near quest NPCs in FFXIV – Destructoid

Arguably one of the best quality of life updates arriving Final Fantasy XIV with Dawn Trail is the ability to hide players grouped around an NPC or quest item. This is a setting that can be turned on or off, depending on your preferences.

Previously, especially during expansions or patches, it could be difficult to locate an NPC in a large crowd of players. This is especially true with small NPCs or objects. However, this quality of life update will remove this issue, should you choose to enable it.

Where to find Hide Nearby Players settings in FFXIV

To enable your quest progress settings in Final Fantasy XIVGo to the Character Setup menu in the Control Settings. This feature is found in the General tab, with the two associated boxes located under the “Quest Progress Settings” heading.

You have two options under this feature. You can hide nearby players when you approach, making it easier to locate the NPC or item, but you can also enable the option to remove all nearby players when interacting with the NPC or the object.

This second option makes it easier to pay attention to an NPC, especially if they move during the dialogue scene. These options can be enabled separately or together, depending on whether you have difficulty concentrating with many other people around you.

When applied, this setting does not remove players from your party, although it does remove friends outside of your party. It's worth considering if you're planning to travel through Dawn Trail with friends.
