Adding the Destiny 2 Microcosm exotic weapon to your personal armory is simple: just complete three special co-op missions in the Pale Heart. It's a nice and easy exotic weapons quest compared to some of the others in Destiny 2 and leaves you with a powerful and very unique kinetic damage trace rifle that uses heavy ammo and absolutely destroys enemy shields. Destiny 2 Convalescence: Budding quest explained

Convalescence: Budding is a simple Exotic quest that you collect from Micah-10 after completing a few of his other Convalescence quests. Budding tasks with which you simply accomplish complete all three Cooperative Focus missions (Ascent, Dissent and Destiny 2 Iconoclasm) from the Destiny 2 The Final Shape campaign. Once you have done this you can return to Micah at the Arbor of Light and collect the Exotic Kinetic Heavy Tracer Rifle, Microcosm. Don't forget to also collect the secret Destiny 2 Prismatic Shards in each of these missions.

Destiny 2 Final Form Guides

You will find the three Destiny 2 Co-op missions as individual activity nodes on the Pale Heart map under “Replayable Missions”Unsurprisingly, the Cooperative modifier emphasizes cooperative play by adding additional mechanics and modifiers. These make missions a little trickier in places and require you to communicate well with your teammates and be on your toes. You should definitely team up with at least one other person (but preferably two to make a full three-person squad) and make sure you have a way to talk to each other.

The Microcosm is therefore a relatively easy exotic weapon to obtain in The Final Shape, especially compared to the Destiny 2 Khvostov, which requires all sorts of collectibles, mainly Lost Cipher Bits and Traveler's Visions.
