Houston police chase leads to suspect hitting woman on Rebecca Street in South Union/Greater Old Spanish Trail area, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department began searching for a wanted person Thursday evening after he led officers on a chase and then struck and killed an older woman, according to HPD.

Police said the search took place near the 3400 block of Rebecca Street, near the South Loop-Highway 288 interchange, in the South Union/Greater Old Spanish Trail area.

Police did not immediately release anything other than a tweet posted at 8:57 p.m.

ABC13 gathered information from officials at the scene and learned the woman, using a walker, had nothing to do with the suspect.

Authorities say the chase began around 8:20 p.m. at Glenrose and Scott streets, in a neighborhood on the other side of the South Loop.

Officers were trying to arrest a fugitive wanted on multiple felony warrants and a shooting when he took off, police said.

Authorities later said the suspect did not drive too far and instead drove in circles, stopping when he allegedly hit the woman. He abandoned the vehicle and police last saw him flee on foot.

Police did not provide his description. They set up a perimeter in the neighborhood as part of the manhunt.
