Hot Wednesday with highs close to 100°!

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery officially recorded a high temperature of 101 degrees on Tuesday! Other highs in the area included the upper 90s and plenty of triple-digit heat…so are we doing it again for your Wednesday? For many, the answer is yes, but we're expecting a few showers and thunderstorms to develop during the hottest part of the day. That might be enough to cool down, but not all, of our cities.

The positive side is the low humidity. Yes, there is humidity in the atmosphere, but it's not overwhelming. This means that the air can heat up effectively and the heat index/felt temperatures are likely close to the actual air temperature, which is still warm but not quite *as* dangerous from a point of view from heat stroke.

There will be more heat in the coming weeks. Yes, it's to be expected here in Alabama as June turns to July, but it's always a good reminder to think about the heat before heading out!

Available data suggests a long, consistent daily temperature of between 94 and 99 degrees, with humidity levels also beginning to rise soon.

Common-sense heat precautions will be necessary in the coming weeks: drink plenty of water before, during and after outdoor activity, take more breaks than usual, and try to do your work early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will occur each afternoon. No, it won't rain all day and it won't rain on everyone, but we'll at least have a few of those precious cooling showers and storms floating around the state each afternoon. That's a good thing: we need rain!

The upcoming weekend is shaping up to be…you guessed it: hot and humid with a few scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Highs Saturday and Sunday will likely be in the 90s under a mix of sun and clouds. Don't cancel outdoor plans, but you should have a rain backup plan just in case!
