Horror moment mother is killed in front of her baby caught on store CCTV as manhunt continues

CCTV cameras are believed to have captured the murder of a young mother in front of her baby.

Kulsuma Akter, 27, was pushing the five-month-old in a pram when she was stabbed multiple times outside the Westgate International Food store in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on Saturday afternoon (April 6).

Ms Akter later died in hospital, but her son remained unhurt. Police have launched a nationwide manhunt for suspect Habibur Masum, 25, who is known to the victim. He is believed to still be in the UK and people have been warned not to approach him, the Mirror reports.

Police filmed the store on surveillance cameras, which reportedly showed the moment the mother was stabbed. A store source said on Monday: “Our CCTV covers the inside of the store and one camera shows the outside where the attack took place. »

He said the suspect was speaking to the woman who had her baby in a pram.

“He then attacked the woman, she screamed and he killed her,” he said. “He then ran away, jumped over a fence and ran away. There was no car. »

Cops released another CCTV clip (shown above) on Monday April 8, showing Masum boarding a bus in Bradford city centre, just minutes after the attack. He was last seen getting off the bus in the Bradford Moor Park area, a few miles away.

Masum lived in Oldham, Gtr Manchester, but is also believed to have links to Burnley, Lancs and Chester, Cheshire. Police raided a number of properties in the north-west on Monday and a 23-year-old man was arrested in Cheshire on suspicion of assisting an offender.

West Yorkshire Deputy Chief Constable Damien Miller said Saturday's incident had “understandably caused a great deal of shock and concern”. He said: “I would like to say that my thoughts and those of everyone at West Yorkshire Police are with Kulsuma’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. »

He added: “We have a suspect in this investigation whose details have been widely publicised and we are doing everything in our power to locate him.”

Police have already released a CCTV image of the suspect wearing a coat with three gray, white and black lines. He also wore blue or gray tracksuit bottoms and brown sneakers.

The man is believed to be from Bangladesh and was in the UK on a student visa and then a postgraduate visa after graduating.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he studied in the UK for a master's degree in marketing and digital marketing at the University of Bedfordshire between 2021 and 2023. Masum has chronicled his life in the UK, with videos showing him try clothes made in Bangladesh at Primark. , traveling to Barcelona, ​​walking in the snow and assembling baby furniture.

Just days before the brutal attack, he posted a photo of himself posing with a woman and baby under a sign reading “love.”

Masum was known to police and officers had also had contact with Ms Akter, who was believed to have stayed at a women's refuge in Bradford.

Deputy Chief Constable Miller said West Yorkshire Police had approached police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct about its contact with Ms Akter. Greater Manchester Police also said it had spoken to the IOPC regarding its previous contact with the victim and suspect.
